1943 BMW R-75

This R-75 Elephant was built with a mix of original and aftermarket reproduction parts, with mixed results. It looked stunning, and ran like a top. Started with the first kick, but the gearbox was finicky. Getting reverse, while keeping 4th as an option proved rather difficult, as these are shim adjusted. One must tear down the gearbox each time.

It was sold to a collector on the East Coast, who enjoyed it completely. On demonstration in the new owner’s exclusive neighbourhood, we pulled three donuts in his front lawn, much to the consternation of his Wife, who witnessed the whole thing from the living room window.

BMW R-75 built in 1942 has been involved in the recovery and restoration of many rare WWI and WWII vehicles over the decades. We found this old “Elephant” in Poland in the late 90’s, and decided to go ahead with a full restoration.

It was imported into the USA and sold to a collector in Texas, who proudly displays the machine in re-enactments and local museums.
